Malles Sparks Women's Soccer 6-2 Win Against UNC Pembroke

Savannah, Ga. – Senior Kelsey Malles highlighted a 6-2 win earlier today for the Adelphi University women's soccer against UNC Pembroke by scoring half of the team's goals in the first half. The match was played at Armstrong State University as part of the Pirate Shootout.

With the victory, first year Head Coach Brooke DeRosa earned her first win at the helm of the Brown and Gold.

Malles led the attack with three goal on three shots, two of which came in less than a minute apart in the first half. Brianna Doran scored her first collegiate goal while Victoria Antonino and Sarah Barone Stern also added tallies. In net, Anne Marie Ulliac made four stops to earn her first win as a Panther.

Doran opened up the scoring parade with a header at exactly the 24th minute, finishing a cross from Laura Gomez on the far post. Following the goal, Malles entered the game and made her impact felt 57 seconds later with a strike off a deflection from Pembroke goalkeeper Janae Aiken to put the Adelphi up 2-0.

In the following minute, Malles again found the back of the net thanks to another deflection inside the box. The Braves managed to cut into the lead with back-to-back goals in the 40th and 42nd minute with goals from Armani Boswell and Jillian Robson.

With the score at 3-2, Malles again helped provide the offense less than 30 seconds after the Braves' second goal. Olivia Czavar played a cross in the box during the 43rd minute that Malles was able one time for her third goal of the day and put Adelphi up 4-2 going into the intermission.

Just 43 seconds into the second half, local weather again affected Adelphi. However, both teams were able to return to the field after nearly a two hour delay.

The Panthers were able to increase their advantage shortly following the delay as Antonino beat Aiken one-on-one in the 52nd minute. Finishing the scoring of the day was Barone Stern in the 77th minute a high strike from outside the box.

"It was a well deserved win and the team responded well to our defeat on Friday," said DeRosa. "I'm proud of the team for finishing the weekend with a commanding win."

The Brown and Gold return to the Northeast with a matchup on Wednesday at Bridgeport. The contest is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
