Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to Assumption College on Saturday, September 26, collecting a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-22, 25-11). With the win the Panthers improve to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds fall to 4-8 and even their conference record at 1-1.
Mandy Stanislovaitis paced Adelphi with a team-high 14 kills and added 16 digs to round out her double dip.
Shelby Stoner racked up 12 kills and
Bailey Riedel posted seven kills and an attack percetage of .636. Defensively,
Sierra Crook led the way, with a game-high 24 digs, while
Megan Manierski was credited with 40 set assists.
The Adelphi offense was clicking early in the first game, as the Panthers sprinted out to a 12-4 lead, forcing a time out after a service ace from
McKenna Clawson. Assumption responded with a 7-3 spurt that got the Greyhounds to within four points, 15-11 on a kill from Olivia Burke, however that was as close as Assumption would get in game one. The Brown and Gold kept the visitors at bay, scoring 10 points down the stretch to nine for Assumption, collecting a 25-20 win that was capped by a Stanislovaitis kill.
The roles were reversed in the second game. This time the Greyhounds took an early 5-1 edge and continued to lead the way late in the game at 19-18 on a Kellie Smith kill. After clawing back into the game, Adelphi took their first lead on a Clawson kill, 20-19, and followed that up with five of the next eight points to take a 2-0 lead on the strength of a 25-22 game two victory.
The third game was all Brown and Gold after a 4-4 tie was broken by an Assumption attack error, giving the Panthers a 5-4 lead. From there Adelphi went on a 12-2, securing a 17-6 lead on a Manierski kill, anda then closed out the game by out scoring the Greyhounds, 8-5, closing out the sweep, 25-11.
Adelphi returns to the court on Tuesday, September 29 when they welcome cross island rival NYIT to the Center for Recreation and Sports for a 7:00 pm contest.Â
