1985 American League MVP Don Mattingly will be the special guest.

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Panther Club will host its 8th Annual Fall Cocktail Reception, presented by MetLife's Legacy Advisors, on Wednesday, November 11 at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, N.Y. The event will feature 1985 American League MVP and Yankees legend Don Mattingly as the evening's special guest. He will appear on stage throughout the evening, along with interviewer Ed Randall from WFAN's "Talking Baseball".

Metlife's Legacy Advisors will be the presenting sponsor of the Annual Fall Cocktail Reception for the second consecutive year. Metlife's Legacy Advisors Joseph Providenti and Michael Hirson continue to be supporters of the Fall Cocktail Reception and the Adelphi Athletic Department.

"We are excited to continue our partnership with the Adelphi University Athletics Department and to continue supporting the Adelphi Athletics Fall Cocktail Reception," said Hirson. "We are looking forward to continuing to grow our already great relationship with Adelphi University."

Mattingly spent his entire playing career with the New York Yankees, donning the pinstripes from 1982-1995, including earning the title of captain in 1991. As a player he was the American League MVP in 1985 and was a six-time all-star. Mattingly also earned nine Golden Glove awards at first base, three Silver Slugger honors, and was the American League batting champion in 1984. In 1997, the New York Yankees organization retired his number, 23.

Following his career on the field, Mattingly made a move to the bench, joining the Yankees as a special instructor at spring training from 1997-2003. Following that seven year stint he was named New York's hitting coach, a position he held until joining the Los Angeles Dodgers in the same role. In 2011, Mattingly made his debut as the manager of the Dodgers and in the past four seasons, Los Angeles has won two National League West Division Titles and appeared in the Major League Baseball playoffs twice.

Randall, a longtime New York correspondent for ESPN Radio, will interview Mattingly about his career in baseball. Randall is also a regular contributor on ESPN Classic's anthology shows and hosts the Sunday morning radio program "Ed Randall's Talking Baseball," which airs on New York's WFAN-AM and nationally on Sirius XM Radio's MLB Home Plate channel.

The Panther Club is Adelphi University's primary organization for providing direct support to all men's and women's athletic programs. The Club's goals are simple: to generate support that is needed by our teams to be regionally and nationally competitive; to provide a focal point for students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and the community to rally around; and to create an "esprit de corps" between members.
