Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team took home another Northeast-10 Conference victory on Tuesday afternoon, as the Panthers blanked the visiting Chargers of the University of New Haven, 9-0.
The Panthers (5-0, 4-0 NE-10) didn't drop a game at the first two flights in doubles, as
Stefani Lineva and
Karen Serina paired up for their first win of the season at No. 1 before
Samantha Perri and
Rebecca Fakas also delivered a faultless performance to win at No. 2. The Panthers' No. 3 doubles team of
Elena Nastasi and
Bianca Bernal, playing together for the first time this season, had a tougher time of things before Nastasi served out the 8-4 match to send the Brown and Gold into singles play leading 3-0.
Lineva also earned her first win of the season in singles, as she prevailed over New Haven's (0-4, 0-4 NE-10) Alexandra Sharshakov, 6-2, 6-3. Serina, Fakas and Perri ensured that their day would finish in perfect fashion, as each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 2 through No. 4 singles -- making all three 20-0 in games won on the afternoon. With No. 5 and No. 6 singles shortened to pro sets, both Nastasi and Maria Bruzon Guttierrez also defeated their opponents to complete the sweep.
"We did a good job today and played very well together as a team," head coach
Michael Misiti stated. "We have many more matches in the schedule and we strive to play our best every day."
