Manchester, N.H. - For the second day in a row, the Adelphi University women's tennis team edged a tight match against a Northeast-10 Conference opponent, this time moving past the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Identical 8-4 victories by
Samantha Perri and
Elizabeth Kallenberg (No. 2) and
Rebecca Fakas and
Elena Nastasi (No. 3) gave Adelphi (4-0, 3-0 NE-10) the lead after doubles play. The first Penmen (1-1, 1-1 NE-10) point of the afternoon came at No. 1 doubles, where Ashley Loft and Nour Kaddour rolled to an 8-1 win over
Stefani Lineva and
Karen Serina.
While the top two singles flights went the way of the Penmen courtesy of more winning by Loft and Kaddour, a sweep of the other four flights gave Adelphi the victory. Serina, Fakas and Perri all posted two-set victories, and Nastasi capped off the Brown and Gold win by rallying in a match tiebreak after dropping the second set to love at No. 6.
"We were happy to come up with a win in a tightly contested match today," head coach
Michael Misiti stated. "Again, the freshmen stepped up for us and have had a great start to the season."
