16 Student-Athletes Represent Adelphi On NE-10 Spring Academic All-Conference Teams

Mansfield, MA – Adelphi University led all institutions with 16 student-athletes selected as Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honorees for the 2015 spring season.

Overall, 93 student-athletes were handed Academic All-Conference accolades for their efforts in the classroom and on the playing field. Each of the conference's 15 member institutions had at least one student-athlete earn the honor. Adelphi led the way with 16 honorees in total followed by Stonehill with 11 and Le Moyne with 10. Southern New Hampshire had eight, while Bentley, Merrimack and New Haven each had seven honorees. 

Two sports that held its league championships in the fall, men's golf and women's tennis, had two individuals each named to the academic list in Aaron Burton, Tye Morrison, Katarina Barborikova, and Charlotte Moreau. The men's tennis team added Sander Brenner and Uladzislau Litvinchuk while Robert Vani represented the baseball squad.

Three spring NCAA teams were also represented as men's lacrosse, who earned a two-seed in the NCAA tournament, placed Joseph Sciara and Jamie McAndrew on the All-Academic team. Three members of the East Region champions and World Series softball earned the league honors with Victoria Wink, Lindsay Mapes, and Jordan Catalano all being recognized. Finally, the back-to-back National Championship women's lacrosse squad was represented by Alexa Froccaro, Jacqueline Jahelka, Taylor Hayes, and Felicia Mills.

Burton finished fifth at the NE-10 Championships as a senior this past fall with two round score of 150 (73-77) to land on the All-Conference First Team. He also finished 16th at the IUP Invitational while posting a 3.574 GPA as a finance major.

Morrison, holding a 3.579 GPA as a junior, was in the top-two finishers for all Adelphi in all seven events this past season while being the top finisher in five of those. The Mead, WA native totaled a 152 (80-72) at the NE-10 Championships to share 14th place and earned All-Conference Second Team recognition.

Being selected to the All-Conference Second Team for first flight doubles and Third Team number three singles, Barborikova was a sports management major with a 3.747 GPA. The senior posted a 14-3 overall singles record while going 12-0 during league play.

Joining Barborikova on the Second Team in the first flight doubles, Moreau also landed on the team with her performance in the number two singles. A business management major with a 3.737 through her senior season, the Lyon, France native went 11-5 in singles competition while adding a 12-5 doubles record.

From the men's tennis team, Brenner helped turn an All-Conference Third Team selection in the number four singles and a 3.68 GPA as a political science major into an Academic All-Conference pick. The junior went 9-4 that included an 8-1 mark during conference action.

Litvinchuk joined Brenner by posting a business management GPA of 3.79 and marks his second selection to the Academic All-Conference team. This past season, he finished 7-5 in singles action that included a 7-1 NE-10 record while earning a spot on the NE-10 All-Conference Second Team.

The lone baseball representative, Vani was named to the NE-10 All-Conference Second Team this past spring while also being selected the Adelphi Co-Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. The local product out of Garden City notched a .336 batting average for the Panthers this season with 51 hits along with 23 RBI.

The NE-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player, Sciara notched a 3.74 GPA as a finance major while making 14 starts in 15 games this past season and helping the men's lacrosse team to a second straight NE-10 Championship. The senior registered 14 points in addition to causing 18 turnovers.
 
Classmate Jamie McAndrew finished fourth on the team this past season behind 39 points with 27 goals and 12 assists. As a special education/history major, the senior from Levittown, NY finished with a 3.698 GPA.

A senior leader on a team that made its first Division II College World Series, Wink makes her second Academic All-Conference appearance with a 3.851 GPA as a physical education major. This past season, she recorded 54 hits, 35 RBI, and 29 runs while starting all 53 games.

Earning a spot on the Daktronics All-Region Second Team and All-Conference First Team, Mapes won 19 games throughout 35 appearances with a 2.14 earned-run-average. The sophomore is a communication and mass media major with a 3.886 GPA that tossed 222.0 innings this past year on the way to the World Series.

Catalano landed on the All-Conference Second Team this past spring and coupled with her 3.818 GPA as an exercise science helped her round out the softball trio on the All-Academic Team. The first baseman started all 53 games with the same number of hits along with 21 RBI.

Froccaro led a quarter from the National Champion women's lacrosse program after being named a Capital One Academic All-America First Team member with a 3.789 GPA as a communications major. The Port Washington native finished third in the NCAA with 98 points behind 72 goals and 26 assists on the way to being named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and an IWLCA First Team All-American. 

Also earning recognition on the NCAA All-Tournament Team as well as the NE-10 All-Conference Second Team was Jahelka, who finished third on the team and fifth in the league with 86 points behind 68 goals and 18 assists. The sophomore started all 22 games for the National Champions and posted a 3.82 GPA as an education major.

Hayes, a health and physical education major with a 3.533 GPA, was named the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Championship after making nine saves and four groundballs in two games while only allowing nine goals. The junior finished first in the nation with a 4.71 goals-against-average while playing in all 22 games.

Another member of the NCAA All-Tournament Team and the IWLCA All-America First Team, Mills led the NE-10 and finished second in the country with 134 draw controls on the season. The All-Conference first team member posted a 3.343 GPA as a nursing major.

To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.
