Syracuse, NY - The #1 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team opened the game with four goals and LeMoyne was never able to recover, giving the Panthers a 15-6 victory on Saturday, April 25 in Syracuse, New York. With the win the Panthers close out the regular season at 15-1 overall and 12-1 in the Northeast-10, clinching the top seed in the conference tournament, while the Dolphins slip to 15-2 overall and 12-1 in conference.
Alexa Froccaro led the Panther offense with six points on five goals and one assist, while
Jacqueline Jahelka (4G) and
Rachel O'Brien (2G, 2A) had four points each.
Felicia Mills was the only other member of the Brown and Gold with more then one point, scoring once and adding an assist.
The defensive unit played solid as a whole, with eight different players causing one turnover, while Mills and
Ryley Weber controlled the draw with seven and five draw controls respectively.
Taylor Hayes made two stops in her 14th win of the season.
The Panthers came to play, opening the scoring just 1:43 into the action when Mills scored an unassisted goal. That tally started a run of four straight goals as Jahelka, Froccaro and
Rachel Aitkens all put a bulge in the back of the Dolphin net in a span of roughly nine minutes, 4-0. LeMoyne and Adelphi would trade goals twice in the ensuing 14 minutes, but the Brown and Gold took control in the final four and a half minutes of the first half, scoring three of four tallies to head into the break with a 9-4 advantage.
The second half was all Adelphi, as the Panther defense turned up the pressure, holding the Dolphins scoreless for over 28 minutes. During that span the offense managed find the back of the LeMoybe cage six times, with the final goal coming from the stick of Jahelka with 3:01 left to put the Brown and Gold up by 11 goals. LeMoyne slipped two goals past Hayes in the final two minutes, but Adelphi came away with a 15-6 victory.
Adelphi will be the top seed in the Northeast-10 Tournament and will host #8 Saint Michael's in a quarterfinal contest on Wednesday, April 29 at 7:00 pm.
