Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team returned to the courts to celebrate senior day ahead of its match against LIU Post on Thursday. Led by the efforts of seniors Charlotte Moreau, Katarina Barborikova and Joanna Haich, the Panthers rolled past their non-conference opponents, 8-1. 

The Panthers swept doubles play to establish a 3-0 lead in the match. While Haich and Stefani Lineva and Rebecca Fakas and Bianca Bernal dropped just one game combined in winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for Adelphi, Barborikova and Moreau found themselves in a battle at top flight. However, the seniors showed the mettle that made them team leaders over the past two seasons, and they edged Didi Fatchikova and Lucie Chrastecka in a tiebreak, 9-8 for the sweep. 

Haich and Barborikova closed out their careers with singles wins on their home court, with Haich winning 6-1, 6-1 and Barborikova taking an 8-3 pro set win. While the day celebrated the Panthers' seniors, freshman Maria Bruzon Gutierrez also had a highlight day, picking up her first collegiate win in her first singles match of the season, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. 

"Today was a wonderful day," head coach Michael Misiti stated. "We played a team that we are close with, as many of the players and coaches are friends off the court. The ceremony was beautiful and we are sad to lose three wonderful women, yet happy to congratulate and celebrate their careers, and wish them the best of luck in the future."

The Panthers checked in at No. 6 in the latest NCAA East Regional poll, and will wait to see if they are selected to the regional tournament next month.
