Dowling Jumps Out Early In 12-1 Win Against Baseball

Tyler Murphy drove in the day's lone run with a sacrifice fly during the sixth inning.

Oakdale, NY – Dowling jumped out early in a Long Island non-conference matchup this afternoon, upending the Adelphi University baseball team 12-1.

Three players accounted for the Panthers' (4-6) three hits on the day, with Kory Cassara scoring the lone run of the game. David Butler logged 1.2 innings of relief work, striking out one and allowing no earned runs while Will Hickey pitched a shutout eighth with a strikeout.

Daniel Parisi drove in three runs for the Golden Lions (7-3) behind two hits while also scoring a run. John Cruz and RJ Going added three hits each with Going notching two RBI and two stolen bases. Nicholas Persad earned the victory with six innings on the mound, allowing just three hits and one run.

Three singles in the first four at-bats of the bottom of the first helped Dowling cross the first run across the plate. The next two runs came after an error and a wild pitch as the Golden Lions ended the first with a 3-0 lead before adding another tally in the second on a fielder's choice.

Cruz started a three-run in the fifth inning with double down the right field line and scoring on the next play. Going scored the third run on a groundout before the Panthers cut into the lead at 7-1 in the top of the sixth. Tyler Murphy came on to pinch hit and drove in Cassara with a sacrifice fly to left field.

Dowling quickly responded to Adelphi's one run with five in the bottom half of the sixth, the included a steal of home from Vinny Orlando. Going added one of two RBIs on the day in the inning as well, singling through the left side.

The Panthers return to Northeast-10 Conference action tomorrow with a 3:30 pm home game against Pace.
