West Haven, CT – The Adelphi University men's basketball team was unable to convert in the final minute during a 62-61 setback at New Haven this evening the Northeast-10 Conference Regular season-finale.
Senior
Duane Morgan contributed 22 points and three steals to the effort for the Panthers (6-20/3-17 NE-10) while
Ryan DeNicola added 18 point on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting from that floor that included four 3-pointers.
Eric Anderson speared the victory for the Chargers (15-11/10-10 NE-10) with a double-double of 35 points and 17 rebounds to go along with four blocks and two steals. Jemal Mosley finished with 11 points, five assists, and two steals.
The Panthers opened up an 8-0 lead with an
Anthony Libroia lay in and back-to-back 3-pointers from DeNicola and
Justin Jenkins. That lead grew to as large as 18 points at 27-9 after a Morgan dunk with 8:44 remaining in the period.
New Haven rallied to trail by just six points at the halftime break, 37-31. Adelphi held the slight advantage in field goal shooting, outshooting the Chargers 55.6 percent (15-for-27) to 52.0 percent (13-for-25). Morgan finished the stanza with 12 points while DeNicola added 10 points.
A layup from Anderson with 13:26 left in the game gave the Chargers their first lead of the game at 45-44. From there, both teams traded hoops and the lead before New Haven built a six-point lead twice at 60-54 and 62-56. However, a three from DeNicola and a lay in from Coffey brought the deficit to one with 1:17 left at 62-61.
New Haven was unable to convert on two free throws in the final minute to seal the victory, however, a layup from Morgan with four seconds left was not to be as the Panthers were unable to attempt another shot after an Anderson missed free throw with two seconds left.
Tonight's marks the final game of the 2014-15 season for the Brown and Gold as well as concluding the first season under Head Coach
