Garden City, N.Y. - For the fourth straight contest, the Adelphi University field hockey team chalked up a shutout and found an offensive flow for a 4-0 victory in Northeast-10 Conference action against Franklin Pierce earlier today on Motamed Field.
The Panthers jumped ahead with two quick goals in the opening six minutes with
Molly Cuevas a part of both. Just past the third minute of the game, Cuevas back handed a target into the front of the goal that
Elizabeth Mercuri was able to redirect into the goal for the opening tally. Cuevas scored herself less than three minutes later to make it 2-0 with unassisted strike. With a little bit more time off the clock, Cuevas was able to connect for her second goal of the with a shot from the top of the arc after
Kristen Bagley put a centering pass in off the corner from
Rachel Colvin.
Adelphi finished the opening 35 minutes with 11 shots compared to three allowed. The offense also generated six penalty corners and yielded one to the Ravens. Meaghan Williams made five saves for Franklin Pierce to limit the score to 2-0 while
Amanda Gargiulo made one stop.
As the game slowed in the second half, Bagley was able to give the Panthers a 4-0 advantage in the 55th minute. The senior finished off a pass from
Lena Pollich in front of the net that capped off the scoring for the day. The goal was one of two shots in the period for the Brown and Gold as Franklin Pierce also attempted two shots. Both goalies came up with one save as Gargiulo preserved the shutout for Adelphi.
The Panthers conclude a three-game homestand on Wednesday by hosting Bentley for a 4:00 pm NE-10 contest on Motamed Field.
