Garden City, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University women's tennis team closed out its home slate of regular season matches with a 9-0 victory over the visiting Ravens of Franklin Pierce. Before the match, the team's lone senior,
Bianca Bernal, was honored for her three years in an Adelphi uniform.
The Panthers (12-0, 11-0 NE-10) set the tone in the match early with three commanding wins on the doubles court. At No. 1 and No. 3, respectively,
Elizabeth Kallenberg and
Samantha Perri and
Rebecca Fakas and
Elena Nastasi did not drop a game in their 8-0 pro-set wins. The Panthers completed the 3-0 sweep to move into singles play with an 8-2 win by
Stefani Lineva and
Karen Serina at second flight.
In singles, Adelphi swept all six matches, led by two 6-0, 6-0 wins by Kallenberg and Perri. Fakas dropped one game en route to winnings her match at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, while Bernal closed out her career with a tight 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6.
"The women took care of business on a happy day for one of our seniors," head coach
Michael Misiti stated. "Now we look forward to Stonehill
on Monday, what will be an important match for both teams."
