Box Score Brookeville, NY - The No. 8 Adelphi University field hockey program traveled across town to face the No. 6 Pioneers of LIU Post University in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon. After tying the game late in the second half, the Panthers headed to overtime, but the Green and Gold offense was too strong as they scored just three minutes in for a 2-1 decision. The visitors fall to 5-2 overall as the home team posts a 4-1 record heading into league play.
Freshman
Samantha Nizich recorded the only Panther goal late in the second half to tie the game at 1-1, which was also her first collegiate goal.
Briana Rubenstein picked up two defensive saves in the loss and in the Brown and Gold cage,
Kelly Serrao had seven saves.
Majority of the first half was spent in Pioneer territory as Adelphi maintained offensive control. Kaycee Zelkovsky found a way past Serrao after a deflection on a pass from Dani Crouse to take a 1-0 lead. Play went back-and-forth for the remainder of the first and most of the second half. Molly Cuevas would tie the game at 1-1 and send the team into overtime as regulation ran out.
Just minutes into the first overtime, Serrao dove to make a save, leaving an open net for Kelliann Margiotta to fire in the game-winner and pick up Post's fourth win of the season.
The field hockey team will return to Motamed Field on Saturday, October 4th as they host Merrimack at 6 p.m. in Northeast-10 conference play.
