Garden City, N.Y. - Despite being forced to default three matches, the Adelphi University women's tennis team defeated the Golden Knights of Saint Rose, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Panthers improve to 9-1 overall and run their undefeated streak in the Northeast-10 to 7-0, while the Golden Knights fall to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the NE-10.
Down one player, the Panthers were forced to default at No. 3 doubles to hand the early advantage to the visitors, but had little trouble reclaiming the lead. Freshmen
Stefani Lineva and
Rebecca Fakas remained undefeated at No. 2 doubles with their second 8-0 win of the year, while
Katarina Barborikova and
Charlotte Moreau had little trouble at top flight, winning 8-2.
With Lineva was unable to take the court in her singles match due to arm soreness, each of the Panthers were forced to play with a shuffled lineup and forced to default at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Playing her first match at top flight singles this season, Barborikova showed no signs of it as she eased past Isabella Cubillos, 6-1, 6-3. The Brown and Gold didn't drop a game in any of the other singles matches, as Moreau,
Joanna Haich and Fakas all won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 through No. 4 singles, respectively.
