Women's Tennis Edges SNHU, 5-4

The Panthers remain undefeated in NE-10 play.

Garden City, N.Y. - Fresh off their first loss of the season in the first of three weekend matches on Friday, the Adelphi University women's tennis team rallied for a key Northeast-10 Conference win against the visiting Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon. Despite trailing 2-1 at the close of doubles play, the Panthers picked up four wins in singles to secure the victory. With the win, the Brown and Gold improves to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the NE-10, while Southern New Hampshire drops to 1-1 overall and in the conference.

Freshmen Rebecca Fakas and Stefani Lineva ran their personal winning streak at No. 2 doubles to seven with an 8-0 victory over Jamie Hann and Sarah Sarah Schöllgen to give the Panthers their lone point in doubles play.

Trailing 2-1 in the match for the second straight day, the Panthers reversed their fortunes in singles play. Katarina Barborikova pulled Adephi level with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3, before the remaining opening singles matches went the distance. In them, the Panthers picked up two wins to put themselves a point away from victory; Stefani Lineva picked up another point for the Panthers, rallying from a second set bagel to see off Diana Vamvakitis, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 and Joanna Haich rallied from a similarly one-sided second set to beat Hann, 6-4, 1-6, 6-0.

Fakas once again proved to be the clincher for Adelphi, as the freshman defeated Yolanda Green in straight sets to see the Panthers to victory. The Little Neck, N.Y. native has yet to lose a match in her collegiate career.
