Box Score Garden City, NY - After ending the first half of play at a 0-0 stalemate, the Adelphi University field hockey team kick-started their offense to score five goals in the second half to defeat non-conference opponent Dowling College. The Panthers improve to 3-1 on the season as the Golden Lions fall to 1-5.

Despite Adelphi getting 14 shots off in the first half, both teams went into halftime locked at zero. It wasn't until ten minutes into the second half that the Brown and Gold would put themselves on the board. Lena Pollich was the first to strike, as Mary Plotas followed suit just minutes later off a pass from Molly Cuevas to give the home team a 2-0 advantage over the visiting Lions. 

Ten minutes passed before the Panthers were able to strike again, as Plotas picked up her second goal of the night, unassisted for a 3-0 lead. Taking advantage of the late goals, Cuevas would cross to Plotas once more in front of the goal to make it a 4-0 game. In penalty stroke fashion, Kristen Bagley found a way past Dowling's goalkeeper, Ariana Ovadia for the final goal and play of the evening. Ovadia picked up 18 saves in the loss, on 31 Panther shots. 

"It was a good win for the team, to score five goals in the second half alone boosts our confidence," said Head Coach Gloria O'Connor. "The girls also know that now we must look forward and focus on the next game".
