Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match with a 5-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory against the visiting Dolphins of Le Moyne College on Tuesday afternoon. Despite the match being ended due to darkness, the Panthers claimed two of three points and doubles and all three completed singles matches to put the match out of reach. With the win, the Brown and Gold improves to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the NE-10, while Le Moyne slips to 2-3 and 1-2 in conference play.
The Panthers came into the match with a full roster for the first time this season, but still found themselves in a familiar position at the close of doubles play; with No. 2 doubles going to Adelphi behind
Stefani Lineva and
Rebecca Fakas, but Le Moyne claiming the point at No. 3, top flight doubles proved to be the decisive match.
Katarina Barborikova and
Charlotte Moreau defeated
Rithika Vajjiravelu and Amica Benoit-Limosani by an 8-6 score to put the home team in front heading into singles play.Barborikova continued her solid play this season, and secured another point for Adelphi behind a 6-1, 6-0 win over Dominique Canale to give Adelphi a 3-1 match lead. With the afternoon turning into evening, Lineva showed why she was named NE-10 Rookie of the Week with a solid victory at No. 1 to put Adelphi one point away from the win. Senior
Joanna Haich again provided the clinching point for the Panthers, rallying after dropping the opening set to defeat Jessica Geary, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. Both Moreau and Fakas were leading their singles matches when play was called due to fading light.
