Manchester, N.H. – The Adelphi University women's tennis team opened Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, September 12 with a 7-2 win over the Hawks of Saint Anselm College. Despite being forced to default both third doubles and sixth singles, the Panthers won all of the completed matches in straight sets. With the win, Adelphi improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Saint Anselm drops to 0-2 overall and in the NE-10.
Katarina Barborikova led the Panthers' effort on the day. The junior teamed with
Charlotte Moreau to pick up an 8-2 win at first doubles over Jess Perkins and Ashley Sulkin, before blanking Kate Martin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 Singles for another point. Moreau was nearly as impressive at the No. 2 spot, taking out Meghan Golden 6-2, 6-0. The upperclassmen went 4-0 on the day as
Joanna Haich upended Sulkin, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 4 singles.
Freshmen
Stefani Lineva and
Rebecca Fakas continued their strong play, as the two teamed for an 8-1 win over Martin and Golden at No. 2 doubles to put Adelphi in the lead heading to singles play. Lineva toughed out a 7-6, 6-4 win at top flight singles while Fakas rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 to secure the win.
