Women's Tennis Rallies Past AIC, 6-3

The Panthers rallied after dropping two of the three doubles matches.

Taylor King picked up one of the Panthers' five singles wins with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 singles.
Springfield, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team traveled to the campus of American International College on Saturday morning to take on a fellow NE-10 foe in the Yellow Jackets. Despite losing two of the three doubles points after a tiebreaker, the Panthers rallied to take five of six singles matches to claim victory. With the win, Adelphi improves to 9-5 overall and 8-1 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-7 overall and in the conference.

Joanna Haich and Gaby Adia blanked Romane Wilmotte and Jasmine Byrd at third doubles, 8-0, but Isabel Daudt and Elenna Fulop responded with an 8-5 win over Taylor King and Jennifer Ferguson at second doubles. With the match evenly split at 1-1, Marine Cartier and Ana Paula Simoes proved to be the difference-makers for the Yellow Jackets as they outlasted Charlotte Moreau and Katarina Barborikova at a first doubles tiebreaker, 9-8, to put the hosts ahead. The Panthers trailed 2-1 heading into doubles play for the fourth straight match.

In singles play, the Yellow Jackets' Cartier claimed a victory over countrywoman Moreau, 7-5, 6-1, but it was all Panthers from there. The Brown and Gold didn't drop a set in five singles victories, highlighted by Ferguson's 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Jasmine Byrd at sixth singles. Barborikova and Haich also recorded bagel sets in their victories as second and third singles, respectively.
