Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team improved to 20-5 overall and 13-5 in Northeast-10 conference play after picking up an 87-50 victory over Pace University. The Setters fall to 6-19 overall and 5-14 in league play.
The offense was paced by senior forward Jessica Kitrys who became Adelphi's all-time career points leader in the first half at the 9:21 mark. She shot 7-10 from the field and grabbed six boards in the victory. Teammate Kelly Mannix found herself in double-figures with 12 points while Jenna Halaby chipped in nine of her own.
Leading the Setters was Kirsten Dodge, who accounted for 13 points followed by Margo Hackett who had 11 points. The two combined for seven of the team's 27 total rebounds.
The game progressed quickly as Adelphi held a 15-2 lead just five minutes into the game. Kelly Mannix drained a triple at the 13:10 mark to give the Brown and Gold a 16 point cushion, leading 20-4.
Never giving the Setters an opportunity to come back, the audience would experience history as Kitrys nailed her second three-pointer in the same minute to become Adelphi's all-time career points leader. The record was previously set by Margaret Pape (1981-84) with 1,590 points.
A layup by Ashley Gomez with 17 seconds remaining in the half would leave the Setters trailing by 25, 49-24. The team was shooting 54.8 percent and was outrebounding Pace 24-12.
Adelphi wouldn't score in the second half until Kitrys drained her third triple of the game to lead 52-28, at the 17:31 mark. Ifeanyi Ofili, Samantha Milhaven, Sierra Schrader and Ashley Gomez would come off the bench in the second half to contribute 23 points to the 38 that the Panthers scored.
A jumper by Ofili with 2:56 left in the game would give the Brown and Gold their largest lead of the game at 83-45. Freshman Schrader had the last two layups in the half within a minutes of each other to seal the deal at 87-50.
