Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball Played host to Saint Michael's College in the Center for Recreation and Sports on Saturday, February 1 in a Northeast-10 contest. The Panthers got as close as four points in the final 90 seconds before falling, 70-61. With the loss Adelphi falls to 4-16 overall and 2-12 in the Northeast 10, while the Purple Knights improve to 14-5 overall and 9-5 in conference action.
The Panthers were led by
Duane Morgan's game-high 23 points and four assists, while
Ryan DeNicola chipped in a robust double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds, including 10 rebounds in the first half.
Anthony Libroia did a little bit of everything for the Brown and Gold, scoring 10 points, handing out a team-high seven assists and pulling down six misses, while
Boris Fodouop scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The opening stanza was a defensive struggle early, as it took nearly eight minutes for either team to reach double figures. The Brown and Gold took advantage of the slow start, building an eight point lead, 24-16, on the back of eight points from Morgan, seven from DeNicola and six from Fodouop. The Panthers would take a three-point lead into the half, after a 12-7 St. Michael's run make the count, 31-28.
A Libroia triple at the 15:16 mark, turned a two-point Panther deficit into a one-point Adelphi lead, 43-42, but it was short lived, as the Purple Knights were sparked to a 10-0, capped by a Mike Thompson three. However, Adelphi would rally down the stretch, clawing their way within four points, 63-59, on a Libroia jumper with 1:32 left. Unfortunately, the Purple Knights Dom Ditlefsen canned a triple and three of four free throw attempts in the final 80 seconds to secure a, 70-61 win for St. Michael's.
