Oceanside, N.Y. - Forced indoors due to inclement weather, the Adelphi University women's tennis team picked up a 6-3 win against the visiting Skyhawks of Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon. After picking up two wins in doubles, the Panthers won four singles matches to secure the victory and claim first place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings.
Adelphi (11-2, 9-0 NE-10) got on the board first behind an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles by
Stefani Lineva and
Rebecca Fakas, pushing the pair's record together to 11-1. The Stonehill (6-1, 6-1 NE-10) pairing of Meryl Lawrence and Colleen O'Donnell downed
Maria Fernanda Bruzon Gutierrez and
Joanna Haich at No. 3 to pull the match level, but
Charlotte Moreau and
Katarina Barborikova claimed an 8-3 win at top flight to nudge Adelphi in front heading to singles.
Lineva, Moreau and Barborikova claimed straight sets wins at No. 1 through No. 3 singles to see the Brown and Gold to another win. Barborikova dropped just one game en route to defeating Emma Prinos 6-0, 6-1, while Moreau dropped just three games against Analise Kump and Lineva conceded just four to Bailey Paradiso. Fakas put the finishing touches on the win by coming back from a set down to defeat Lawrence in a match tiebreak, 3-6, 6-1, 10-4.

Michael Misiti stated. "I've pushed the squad mentally and physically this year with a tough schedule, but we've responded well and have never let up the entire season. We also now have two more players eligible which has given the squad a mental lift."
The Panthers return to action tomorrow, October 5th, when they host the Falcons of Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference match.
