Kitrys’s 29 Points Helps Women’s Basketball to 12th Consecutive Win Over Le Moyne College

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team rolled right to a perfect 12-0 record with a victory over Le Moyne College, 82-59 on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins fall to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in conference, as the Panthers post a 6-0 record in NE-10 play.

Senior Jessica Kitrys had a team-high 29 points, going 13-17 from the field and contributed seven rebounds in the win. Two other Panthers posted double-digit points, Calli Balfour and Kelly Mannix with 13 and 10, respectively.

The Dolphins held their only lead of the game in the first two minutes of the half as Maggie Brown layed it in, taking advantage of a Balfour turnover. She was quick to respond with a three-pointer to push the Panthers ahead, 5-4. A five point run from the Brown and Gold with contributions from Sade Jackson and Mannix would increase the margin to seven as the scored reached 14-7.

Coming off the bench with 9:51 remaining on the clock, Jenna Halaby grabbed a quick rebound and layed it in for two points of her own. With less than ten minutes to go in the half, the Panthers held a 12-point lead, 28-16.

As Adelphi went into the locker room, Kitrys led all players with 21 points and Jackson accounted for four assists. The team was shooting 54 percent from the field and had a 44-29 lead over the Dolphins.

The Panthers came out running in the second half, posting a 10-5 run with buckets by Samantha Milhaven, Kitrys and Balfour. With 7:16 left on the clock, Lauren Nuss hit a shot from downtown to give the Panthers a 26 point advantage, leading 71-45.

To close out the contest, Ashley Gomez would hit three of her four foul shots and give Adelphi its twelfth consecutive win with a final score of 82-59. Le Moyne's Bath-Sheba McMahon had a team-high 18 points, shooting a perfect 7-7 from the field.
