Box Score North, Andover, MA - The Adelphi University basketall team traveled to North Andover, Massachusetts on Saturday, January 25 for a meeting with Northeast-10 opponent Merrimack College. The Panthers got double-double performances from
Duane Morgan and
Ryan DeNicola, but still failed to snap a four-game skid, falling 66-51. With the loss, Adelphi falls to 4-14 overall and 2-10 in conference action.
Morgan led the Panthers with 18 points and chipped in 10 rebounds, while DeNicola dropped in 13 points and pulled down a game-high 15 misses.
Greg Davis contributed six points and five rebounds off the bench in the loss.Â
Back-to-back free throws from DeNicola early in the first half kept Adelphi close, 8-7, but a 12-1 Merrimack run over the next five minutes put Adelphi in a 12 point hole, 20-8 with 11:29 on the clock. Despite the Panthers best efforts, the Warriors pushed their edge to 14 on three occasions in the final 10 minutes of the first half, but the Brown and Gold get within single digits, before entering halftime trailing by 12, 37-25.
Merrimack jumped out to a 15 point lead two and a half minutes into the second frame and pushed that margin to 20 on a triple with 12:47 left in the action, 53-32. Adelphi would face their largest deficit at the six minute mark, 62-40, but closed the contest with a 11-4 to create the final margin of 15, 66-51.
