Box Score

Pleasantville, N.Y. – Despite the threatening snowstorm, the Adelphi University women's basketball team traveled to Pace University in their first Northeast-10 conference game of 2014.  Improving to 11-0, the Panthers defeated the Setters 79-64, improving to a stellar 11-0 record overall and 5-0 in conference play. Pace falls to 1-11 and 0-6 in the NE-10.

Sophomore Tara Flynn led all Panthers with a career high 18 points, shooting 6-8 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arc in just 26 minutes of play. Two Panthers completed double-doubles in the victory; Jessica Kitrys with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Sade Jackson contributed 17 points and 10 assists.

Adelphi had no trouble coming off the bus, quickly jumping out to an 11-0 lead, courtesy of timely scoring by Kitrys Jackson and Kelly Mannix. Pace would find a way on the scoreboard via a free throw from Jeane Drury, to make the score 11-1.

Coming off the bench at 11:17, Calli Balfour would find a fast break opportunity, laying it in to increase the lead to 10, 17-7. Balfour would conclude the Panthers 8-0 run with another layup making the score 21-7.

The Setters would force Adelphi to commit 10 turnovers in the first half alone, but would trail the Panthers 36-23 going into the locker room. At the half, Kitrys would lead all players with 10 points and seven rebounds, as Jackson contributed five assists and six points.

Tension ran high going into the second half of the game, as Pace would decrease the margin to eight, pausing Adelphi's offense with their strong defense. Their smallest deficit would occur with 12:01 on the clock and a score of 48-44. Another Flynn three-pointer at 10:58 would give the Panthers the cushion they needed to close out the game.

Pace would only come within 10 to Adelphi for the remainder of the game as the Brown and Gold took advantage of missed shots by the Setters.
