Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. – The men's basketball team hosted the Greyhounds of Assumption College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest earlier this evening at the Center of Recreation and Sport. A pair of 21 point halves proved to be too little against a very physical Greyhound squad as the Panthers found themselves on the short end of the 60-42 scoreboard. With the loss, the Panthers slip to 4-12, 2-8 NE-10 while the Greyhounds move to 4-12, 2-9 NE-10.

For the Brown and Gold, Duane Morgan was the lone player in double figures with 15 points to go along with his eight boards. Ryan DeNicola and Edward Sullivan combined for 15 points and 13 rebounds while Anthony Libroia tallied six points.

For the Greyhounds, Chris Fitzgerald was the game high point earner with 22 points with 18 of them coming from three-point land while Marcus Murray did his part with 20 points.

The Panthers struggled from the get-go and were put in a 12-point hole as a result of a 14-2 Assumption run. Only seven of 24 field goal attempts found the bottom of the net while Adelphi had no answer for the visitor's offensive assault. The Worcester, MA based team shot an impressive 51.9 percent from the field and went 8-15 from behind the arc due in large part to Fitzgerald who accounted for five of them and missing just two from downtown. Additionally, Assumption crashed the boards hard in the opening half, grabbing 10 more misses and scoring seven points on second chance opportunities.

Despite a more evenly slated second, the 17 point first half point differential proved too much to overcome. While Assumption settled down and ran into their fair share of shooting troubles, but the Brown and Gold were unable to knock down shots in order to create a spark. They sunk just five field goals on 28 tries and were only able to manage one trey.

In the second on the defensive end of the game, Adelphi closed the rebounding gap and forced three turnovers while not being credited with a single turnover of their own. Additionally, their three point defense drastically improved as they held Assumption to just 33 percent from behind the arc.
