Women's Tennis Handles LIU-Post, 6-3

Panthers pick up four wins in singles to secure the victory.

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team played host to cross-island rival LIU-Post in a non-conference contest on Friday. The Panthers picked up two wins in doubles play, but took four of six singles matches to come away with the 6-3 win. With the victory, the Panthers run their record to 2-0 while the Pioneers drop to 2-4.

The Panthers found themselves ahead 2-1 after doubles play courtesy of wins by Joanna Haich and Katarina Barborikova at second doubles and Taylor King and Bianca Bernal at third doubles; Haich and Barborikova blanked Laura Harwell and Amanda Gaimaro 8-0, while King and Bernal battled past Teresa Ndong and Joavana Djurdjevic, 8-6.

In solo play, three of the wins for the Brown and Gold came in straight sets. Charlotte Moreau took down Harwell 6-1, 6-0 in third singles, while Adia and King recorded 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-3 wins at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Haich was the only player stretched the distance at second singles, but she outlasted Heena Kewalramani 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

"Today's match was very competitive, but the strong depth of our squad pulled us through," Head Coach Michael Misiti stated. "Our seniors, Taylor and Gaby, showed the leadership needed to get us the W."
