Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team played host to cross-island rival LIU-Post in a non-conference contest on Friday. The Panthers picked up two wins in doubles play, but took four of six singles matches to come away with the 6-3 win. With the victory, the Panthers run their record to 2-0 while the Pioneers drop to 2-4.
The Panthers found themselves ahead 2-1 after doubles play courtesy of wins by
Joanna Haich and
Katarina Barborikova at second doubles and
Taylor King and
Bianca Bernal at third doubles; Haich and Barborikova blanked Laura Harwell and Amanda Gaimaro 8-0, while King and Bernal battled past Teresa Ndong and Joavana Djurdjevic, 8-6.
In solo play, three of the wins for the Brown and Gold came in straight sets.
Charlotte Moreau took down Harwell 6-1, 6-0 in third singles, while Adia and King recorded 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-3 wins at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Haich was the only player stretched the distance at second singles, but she outlasted Heena Kewalramani 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
