Field Hockey Tripped Up by LIU Post, 4-1

The Pioneers scored three of their four goals in the first half in their 4-1 victory over Adelphi.

The Panthers will travel to Manchester, New Hampshire to take on the Saint Anselm Hawks on Saturday, September 21 at 1 p.m.
Box Score Garden City, N.Y.- Earlier this evening, the field hockey squad played host to #5 Northeast-10 opponent LIU Post in a non-conference contest. The Panthers were unable to bridge the gap, after falling behind 3-0 at the half. The Pioneers would add one more goal in the second half, while Adelphi could only muster up one. With the victory, LIU Post improves to a perfect 3-0 overall record, while Adelphi falls to 2-2 overall.

The Pioneers wasted no time, attacking within the first two minutes of the game. With a pass from Keliann Margiotta, Stephanie Ruhle of Post would score the first goal just two minutes later. Much of the first half would be taken advantage of by the Green and Gold, as they pressed the Panther defense and eventually scored two more goals.

Adelphi managed just four shots in the second half by Mary Plotas, Lena Pollich, Molly Cuevas and Jamie Ackerman, of which only Pollich's reached the back of the cage. Goalkeeper Kelly Serrao had five saves in the loss.

The Pioneer offense was led by leading scorer Carlee Dragon who contributed two goals while Ruhle and Quintanilla chipped in one apiece. They had nine corner opportunities to Adelphi's five.

Coach's Thoughts on the Game
"Today's game versus Post was a very hard fought game against a very physical team," said Head Coach Gloria O'Connor. "Obviously we need to regroup quickly and bring our A-game to Saint A's this weekend."
