Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team hosted the Chargers of the University of New Haven on Thursday afternoon for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Panthers prevailed by a 7-2 scoreline to pick up their fourth straight win. Adelphi improves to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the Northeast-10 while the Chargers drop to 7-6 and 7-5 in conference play.
The Panthers were led by
Maria Toft, who recorded victories at top-flight singles and doubles in the same match for the 10th time this season. Toft paired up with
Bianca Posa to record an 8-4 victory in doubles play, before prevailing 6-2, 6-3 at first singles.
Joanna Haich and
Michelle Gurda recorded the Panthers second and final doubles point in the second slot via an 8-1 score.
In solo play, the Panthers picked up five of the six matches to seal the victory. Gurda,
Gaby Adia, Posa and
Taylor King all picked up straight set victories. Posa and King proved the most dominant, recording near-identical scores at fifth and sixth singles; Posa defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1 while King followed up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 13, when they take on American International College in their regular season finale. First ball is scheduled for 12 p.m.
