Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team earned a clean 9-0 sweep on Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference competition on Sunday. The Panthers improve to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in NE-10 play while the Hawks still search for their first victory at 0-4 overall and 0-3 in league action.
The Panthers surrendered just one set in doubles play to take an early 3-0 advantage.
Maria Toft and
Bianca Posa prevailed 8-1 at top flight doubles, while
Michelle Gurda and
Samra Redzematovic (No. 2 doubles) and Gabia Adia and
Taylor King (No. 3 doubles) all blanked their opponents by 8-0 scores.
Adelphi proved just as strong in solo play as the bottom three slots dominated in shutout victories. Adia won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, followed by 8-0 wins by Redzematovic and Posa at the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively.
The Panthers, currently ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Region, returns to action on Saturday when the travel to take on undefeated So. New Hampshire University at 11 a.m.
