Smyrna, Tenn. - The Adelphi University women's bowling team went 4-2 in day two of the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University on Saturday, placing the squad in ninth place heading into Sunday's step ladder finals.
The Panthers began day two action against the hosts, the Commodores of Vanderbilt University. The squad battled neck and neck with the 'Dores throughout the match, which came down to the 10th frame as the Vandy anchor reeled off three strikes to clinch a 15-pin victory, 941-926, despite fine efforts by
Erica Schneider (216) and
Kathryn Rivera (205).
The second match of the day resulted in a victory against the Hornets of Alabama State University. ASU could not hold off
Holly Zink (215), Schneider (215), and
Samantha Morlack (212) en route to a 217-pin drubbing, 1,022-805.
Adelphi then faced the Jaguars of Southern University. The Panthers proved to be the bigger of the two cats as they unleashed a 100-pin win, 915-815, with Schneider (212) and Zink (209) again leading the way.
Match four saw the Panthers face the upstart University of Alabama-Birmingham ladies. The Panthers were unable to find their way to the pocket despite another consistent effort by Schneider (201) and fell by 16 pins, 920-904.
The Brown and Gold then unleashed a barage of strikes against the Lady Jacks of Stephen F. Austin University, led by Rivera (230), Morlack (226),
Kristina Porter (222), and Schneider (215) to score the 84-pin victory, 1073-989.
The Panthers finished the day with the Green Wave of Tulane University, rolling off a 253-pin stunner, 948-695. The ladies finished the day at 4-2 to post a two-day tally of 9-3. The Panthers, now 74-35 on the season, return to action tomorrow in the step ladder finals in ninth place facing Stephen F. Austin.
