Worcester, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team dropped a 77-68 decision at Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday. The Panthers fall to 12-11 overall and 9-10 in league play, while the Greyhounds climb to 17-6 overall and 14-5 in the NE-10.
Adelphi battled to a 36-36 tie at half but Assumption used a 41-32 advantage in the second half and 49.3 percent shooting from the floor to rally past the Panthers. The visitors knocked down 11 shots from behind the arc but were handcuffed by 24 turnovers in the setback.
Kelly Mannix led all scorers with 18 points on six 3-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds, while
Ifeanyi Ofili posted scored in double digits for the second straight game with 14 points to go with five boards and four assists.
Sade Jackson and
Jessica Kitrys each posted 10 points while Jackson dished out nine assists.
For Assumption, Gabrielle Gibson and Katy Howard shared the team lead with 17 points each, and Sabrina Siciliano notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
An evenly-played first half continued into the second period as the two squads grinded out a pair of lead changes over the first six minutes after intermission. The Greyhounds would pull away over the final seven minutes, however, using five consecutive points by Howard to turn a one-possession game into a 69-61 lead for the hosts with 5:04 to play. The Panthers made just two field goals in the final six minutes in the form of a pair of Mannix 3-pointers, which allowed Assumption to gradually pull away with the victory.
The Panthers return to NE-10 action on Wednesday when they travel to Pace University for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
