Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 68-67 overtime decision to the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose as time expired on Wednesday night at the Center for Recreation and Sports. With the loss, the Panthers slip back to .500 with a 12-12 record and 9-9 mark in Northeast-10 play while the Golden Knights improve to 11-11 and 8-10 in the conference.

The Panthers were led by Bradley Simpson, who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate John Calarco added 14 points off of the bench for the Panthers behind 80% shooting from the field and a 2-3 performance from behind the arc while also sinking each of his four tries from the charity stripe.  Cliff Brown and Anthony Libroia combined for 18 points while Sean Crawford chipped in with seven of his own.

For the Golden Knights, Chris Dorgler led all scorers with 19 points which included the game-winning layup. He also pulled down 10 boards for a double-double. Dominykas Milka also recorded a double-double with 16 points to couple his game high 16 rebounds while Kareem Thomas rounded out the scoring with 13 points.

After falling behind 6-3, Adelphi put together an 8-0 run, bookended by three pointers from Anthony Libroia and Simpson to lead 11-6 with 14:12 to go.

A triple from Calarco extended the Panthers' lead to 16-10, but Dan Mundweiler hit back with one of his own to trim the gap to three. Calarco found the basket yet again to push the Adelphi lead back to five with 10:40 to go.

From there, the visitors put together an 8-2 spurt to reclaim the lead, 21-20. A jumper from Brown just 25 seconds later put Adelphi back in front, 22-21, but the Golden Knights responded with a 9-0 run over four minutes of action to take a 30-22 lead.

A three from Brown and a two-point jumper from Sean Crawford brought Adelphi within three, 30-27 with 1:55 to go, but Thomas added a two pointer to send St. Rose to the locker room with a 32-27 lead at the half.

A three from Andre Pope with 15:15 showing on the clock in the second put the Golden Knights up by nine, 41-32. Calarco put together a five-point string behind a three-point jumper and a layup to cut into the lead and bring the score to 42-37 with 11:21 remaining.

The visitors' first field goal since Pope's trey came in the form of a layup by Dorgler at 10:38. Just three seconds later, a steal and a three point play from Mundweiler put the Golden Knights up by double figures, 47-37.

A pair of freebies from Calarco and a trifecta from Crawford brought the Brown and Gold to within five, 49-44. Simpson found the bottom of the basket off of a lobbed pass from Chris Ranglin to pull within one, 56-55 with 4:10 remaining. Out of a timeout, Libroia drained a three to put the Brown and Gold in front, 57-56. Saint Rose answered back to lead 60-57, but Calarco hit two from the line to pull back within one, 60-59 with just over a minute to go.

Tyler Sayre put in an uncontested layup to put the Golden Knights up by three, but Calarco found a wide open Simpson under the basket to bring the score to 62-61. After Mundweiler missed a one and one opportunity, Simpson was fouled with 21.9 left in the game and made one of two from the line to tie it up at 62-62.

Saint Rose's last second layup attempt fell short, and Adelphi headed to overtime for the second straight game. Simpson would make one of two from the charity stripe to open the period, and Ranglin and Libroia would connect on back-to-back jumpers to put Adelphi in front, 67-62 with 3:02 remaining.

Dorgler drained a three-point jumper with 2:50 remaining and Thomas hit one of two from the line to pull within one, 67-66 with 1:55 remaining.

After Simpson missed a two-point jumper with 13 seconds remaining, Milka grabbed the defensive rebound and the Golden Knights drove in to the basket. Milka missed the layup with three seconds showing on the clock but Dorgler was there to grab the miss and quickly go back up with it to sink a last second shot as time expired, serving Adelphi their 12th loss of the year.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, February 16 when they travel to Worchester, Mass. to take on the Assumption College Greyhounds in a Northeast-10 contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
