Box Score Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University field hockey team will advance to the Northeast-10 final four after picking up a quarterfinal win against Bentley University on Tuesday afternoon. The win improves Adelphi's overall record to 11-8. The Falcons complete their 2013 campaign with the same record, 11-8 overall.
Bentley's second highest goal-scorer, Meghan Talerman, was the first to strike, much like the last time these two teams met. The Panthers were unable to answer back in the first half, as the score remained 1-0 going into halftime.
Sophomore
Kristen Bagley was the lone Panther to score in regulation time, on an assist from
Brittany Souke in the 40
th minute, making the score even at one. Adelphi took a total of 13 shots in the second half alone, but was unable to execute on 11 penalty corners.
The Panthers controlled overtime, not letting Bentley advance past the middle of the field. In 8 minutes, four penalty corners and four shots later, sophomore
Molly Cuevas found the back of the cage, past Bentley goalkeeper Katie Kelley, for the 2-1 win.
Adelphi goalkeeper
Kelly Serrao had one save in the victory, while Kelley collected 12 of her own.
Coach's Thoughts
"I give their defense and their goalie credit," said Head Coach
Gloria O'Connor. "We were so tenacious in front of the goal in second half and by carrying it in to overtime, it was nice to get the win."
