Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team turned away the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose in an Northeast-10 Conference contest Tuesday evening, 76-68. The Panthers improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference while the Knights drop to 3-4 and 1-3 in league play.
Jessica Kitrys completed a double-double as she led the offense with a team-high 28 points and 14 rebounds.
Sade Jackson, this week's NE-10 Player of the Week, flirted with a double-double of her own as she collected 11 points and eight assists.
Samantha Milhaven registered 10 points and four rebounds with a 5-8 effort from the free throw line.
Despite a 12-0 start in favor of Saint Rose, the Panthers answered back and evened the score at 26-26 on a
Tara Flynn three-pointer. The score would go back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, with the Panthers heading to the locker room with a 40-36 lead.
Starting the second half, the Brown and Gold jumped out to a nine point lead after a three-pointer from Jackson. Saint Rose's leading scorer, Desiree Simmons accounted for 15 points in the second half for the Golden Knights and 21 on the night. A jumper by Simmons with seven minutes left in the half would give The White and Gold their smallest deficit of five, 57-52.
Coach's Thoughts
"It was a team win tonight and it started with our post defense," stated Assistant Coach Alycia Gervais. "Everyone out on the floor tonight contributed where they needed to, which gave us the win."
