Box Score
New Haven, CT – The men's basketball team opened up Northeast-10 Conference play earlier this evening on the road against the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University. After falling behind by 15 at the half, the Panthers were unable to bridge the gap over the final 20 minutes and suffered their second loss by way of an 80-52 score. With the loss Adelphi drops to 0-2, 0-1 NE-10 while Southern Connecticut remains flawless at 4-0, 1-0 NE-10.
Boris Fodouop and
Damon Coleman were the high point earners for Adelphi as they were both in double figures with 19 and 10 respectively. Fodouop and
Duane Morgan effectively crashed the boards as they accounted for 22 of 39 total team rebounds with Fodouop grabbing 13 of them; a game high.
Anthony Libroia and
Jeremy Schulkin combined for 15 points and four assists in the loss.
Luke Wilson drilled a triple at the 18:08 mark to open an early lead; one that would not be relinquished. Falling behind by nine points early on, Coleman stopped the bleeding with a triple which was followed up by a defensive stop turned into a bucket for
Matthew Citron bringing the game to within four. Later on, the Brown and Gold once again cut into the deficit after letting it slip with back-to-back deuces by Fodouop and a jumper from Schulkin to make it a three-point affair in favor of the hosts.
However, the one-possession game quickly turned into a 15 point gap by halftime. Over the final eight and a half minutes, the Panthers went cold and shot 3-13 from the field with four turnovers which gave way to a crushing 19-7 run to put the game at 40-25.
The Panthers searched for a spark in the second half but were unable to find it. Hampered by 10-29 shooting from the field, the Owls took advantage and sunk 15 of their 34 attempts while limiting their turnovers to just one. The 15 point margin at halftime ballooned to 28 by the time the final buzzer rang.
