Volleyball Upends Merrimack, 3-0

The Panthers secure the #4 seed in the NE-10 Tournament.

Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-22) win against the Warriors of Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon at the Center for Recreation and Sports. With the win, the Panthers improve to 18-11 overall and 10-4 in the Northeast-10, and secure the #4 seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. With the loss, the Warriors drop to 16-13 and 9-5 in the conference. 

Collen Raga led the team with 11 kills on senior day, while classmate Katie Bryson ran the Adelphi offense with 29 set assists. Mandy Stanislovaitis chipped in seven kills and seven digs, and Haley Blunt recorded six kills and seven digs. Shelby Stoner also tallied six kills and led the team with four block assists. 

The Panthers won the battle on offense as they out-hit the Warriors over the three sets .250 to .000, .429 to -.277 and .231 to .100. Adelphi tallied 22 total kills in the opening two sets to record convincing victories, as Merrimack struggled with 18 attack errors.

The third set proved to be closer, as it saw 10 ties and three leads changes. The Warriors jumped out to an early 10-7 lead, but the Panthers recorded three straight points to even the score at 10-10. From there, the score tied five more times with the last coming at 21-21. 

The Panthers won five of the final six points to claim victory, with the final attack attempt from Merrimack's Stephanie Sheehan blocked by Blunt and Stoner.

The Panthers advance to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament and will host the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday, November 19.
