Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team played host to Northeast-10 Conference member Franklin Pierce University in a conference match. After scoring three times in the first half, the Panthers would capture the win, but not before adding two more goals in the second half. With the 5-2 victory the Black and Gold improves to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in conference. The loss drops the Ravens to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in conference.
Just fourteen minutes into the first half, sophomore Kristen Bagley would score her first of two goals for the game, on a pass from freshman Lena Pollich. Two different Panthers would add goals in the first half; Mary Plotas for her seventh of the season and freshman Rachel Colvin for her first collegiate goal.
Adelphi would outshoot Franklin Pierce nine to two in the first half alone. The second half turned in favor of the Crimson and Grey in terms of shots and penalty corners, which they took advantage of. Franklin Pierce found the back of the cage on a penalty stroke, taken by Shannon O'Leary for her first goal of the season.
However, the Black and Gold were quick to answer back, on a goal from Plotas that was redirected on a shot from senior captain Jami Degrote. The Ravens would sneak only one more, off the stick of Chanelle Letarte, past sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Serrao, who had five savse in the win. Franklin Pierce's Amy Zahensky registered six saves in the loss.
Adelphi's Bagley would strike one more time in the sixty-first minute, assisted by Molly Cuevas, giving the Black and Gold some cushion and eventually the win, 5-2. She has five goals on the season, while Plotas captured her seventh and eighth in victory.
Coach's Thoughts on the Game
"It's great to get our first conference win," said Head Coach Gloria O'Connor. " Every game is going to be competitive moving forward,and we need to just take it one game at a time".

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, October 9 as they travel to Springfield, Mass. to take on the Yellow Jackets of American International College.
