Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team played host to Chestnut Hill College on Friday afternoon in a non-conference contest. In their last match of the fall season, the Panthers were unable to rally after losing two of three doubles matches and dropped five of six singles matches to fall 7-2. The Panthers suffer their first loss of the season and drop to 2-1, while the Griffins improve to 8-1.

The Panthers picked up their lone point in team play behind Katarina Barborikova and Joanna Haich, who defeated Kelly Dennis and Iman Williams-Munesa at second doubles by an 8-5 score.

Barborikova's good form continued in solo play, as she defeated Charlotte Dawson at top-flight singles 7-5, 7-6. Charlotte Moreau gave Williams-Mulesa all she could handle in the second singles slot as she forced a third set after dropping the opening set by a 6-1 score. Coach's Quotes

"The score doesn't reflect how close this match was," Head Coach Michael Misiti stated. "At one point it was 2-2 and we were close to going up 3-2. The momentum swtiched to Chestnut Hill and we were never able to regain it. This completes our season and we will look to strengthen the squad and improve for the spring."

Up Next

With Sunday's scheduled match against Molloy postponed, the Panthers will return to action in the new year. They will host the Bears of the New York Institute of Technology in a non-conference contest on February 28.
