Volleyball Sneaks Past Saint Anselm, 3-2

The Panthers needed extra time in the fifth to put away the Hawks.

Box Score Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Manchester, New Hampshire on Friday, October 25 for a Northeast-10 Conference contest against Saint Anselm. Adelphi would leave Manchester with a 3-2 win (25-20, 24-26, 18-25, 25-21, 17-15), but needed extra time to close the game out, winning the fifth set, 17-15. With the win Adelphi improves to 14-8 overall and 6-1 in the NE-10.

Kaitlyn DeStefano led the attack with a game-high 16 kills, while Haley Blunt was just one back with 15 and both Shelby Stoner and Amanda Borges chipped in 12 each. Katie Bryson registered a game-high 57 set assists, while Amanda Borges led the Panthers with 20 digs and Sierra Crook picked up 18. 

Adelphi took advantage of their powerful offense, hitting .375 in the first set to take game one by a score of 25-20. The Hawks battled back, however, to even the score 1-1 and capture the second set, 26-24. The third set went to the Hawks, who recorded 12 kills, while holding the Panthers to just nine.  Adelphi forced the fifth set, snatching the fourth behind 14 team kills and an attack percentage of .220, 25-21.

In the fifth set, the Hawks and Panthers traded points until the Hawks took over the service and went on a four-point run that included two service aces to break it open at 14-9. The Panthers would turn the tables, pushing the game into extra points and eventually taking the fifth set, 17-15, taking advantage of three kills from Stoner.
