Albany, N.Y. – On Saturday, the men's and women's cross country teams had their final tune up before moving into the championship portion of their schedule. The Panthers, along with a handful of other teams that included Division I talent, took to the field at the University of Albany Cross Country Invitational. The women placed fifth overall while the men garnered a sixth place finish.
Senior harrier
Nick Filippazzo was the overall victor of the men's championship 8k race. The Wantagh, N.Y. native averaged 5:06 per mile and covered the course in 25:18, besting runner up Greg Krathwohl of Middlebury by three seconds.
Connor Dolan was the Panther's second runner to cross the line. His time of 26:39 earned him a 28
th place finish.
William Marois,
Ryan Healy and
Chris Reilly were the next three runners for Adelphi. Marois placed 52
nd overall in a time of 27:28 while Healy was 60
th overall in 27:47. Reilly clocked in at 28:03, good enough for 63
rd overall.
As a team, the Brown and Gold's 166 points earned them sixth place. Middlebury won the team competition with 22 points.
On the women's side,
Elizabeth Eickelberg led the way as she has been doing all year long. She completed the 5k course in 18:39 which is just five seconds off of her personal best and good enough for a fifth place finish.
Larissa Melendez came in 22
nd overall after stopping the clock at 19:45 as the Panther's second runner.
Freshman
Nicole Elarde notched a 37
th place overall finish with a time of 20:26.
Taylor Velez and
Lindsey McLaughlin capped the top-five, finishing in 73
rd and 74
th respectively. Velez registered a time of 22:21 while McLaughlin was 10 seconds back at 22:31.
The Panther's 124 points earned them a fifth place finish. Middlebury won the team title with 24 points.
