Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University swimming teams defeated the College of Staten Island on Tuesday to give the Panthers their first win of the new year. The women's team won 55-37 and the men's side took home a 51-41 victory. The Adelphi women improve to 5-1 overall and the men climb to 4-2.
The Panthers opened up with back-to-back wins in the 400-yard medley relays. For the women, the team of
Gabrielle Terzano,
Brittany Stanford,
Ana Galesic and
Samantha Spacone took a dominant 27-second win with a combined time of 4:30.30. The men's crew of
Carlos Ballon,
Michael Mayer,
Chad Ankers and
Zachary Mazur followed up with a 10-second victory and posted a 3:49.84 mark.
Galesic swam her way to first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (26.64) and 100-yard butterfly (1:07.35), and Mazur earned a pair of individual victories in the 50 free (22.76) and 100 free (51.05).
Adelphi is back in action this Saturday when the Panthers head to Troy, N.Y., for a meet hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute that features Northeast-10 Conference opponent The College of Saint Rose.
