Box Score

Colchester, VT – Earlier this afternoon, the men's basketball team took on the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. After a tight first half in which both sides kept within striking distance of each other, the Panthers used a mid-second half surge to pull away and managed to hold on for a 61-58 win. In victory, Adelphi extends their win streak to four and sits at 7-8 overall, 4-5 in conference play while St. Michael's drops to 4-9, 1-8 in NE-10.

The Panthers had three players in double digit scoring, led by senior Chris Ranglin who posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Senior Bradley Simpson chipped in with 11 points on 4-7 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds while freshman Anthony Libroia scored 10 points; six of which came from behind the arc. Sophomore Duane Morgan had a quite night with four rebounds, but made his presence felt down low with an impressive five blocks.

For the Purple Knights, Corey Crawford II led all-comers with a game high 17 points on 4-7 shooting from three point land. James Cambronne pulled down six misses to go along with three blocks and 14 points while Will Davis added 10 points and five rebounds on the night.

The first act featured four ties in back and forth affair that saw neither side get ahead by more than four points. St. Michael's notched the first bucket of the game and remained ahead for the majority of the first 20 minutes. Both the Panthers and the Purple Knights struggled to find their rhythm from the floor, each shooting less than 35 percent from the field.

A made triple from Sean Crawford at the 1:39 mark gave the Brown and Gold their first lead of the game, but on the ensuing possession, a jumper from Harry Eromosele put the hosts back on top by a point. In the final seconds, Crawford was fouled on a three point attempt by Corey Crawford II and sunk two of three from the charity strip to send Adelphi into halftime with a 23-22 advantage.

Within the first 5:12 of the final half, the Vermont based team grew their lead to as much as five points. However, a 19-3 run over the next 5:47 put Adelphi up by 11 points at 49-38. The surge was sparked by a triple from Cliff Brown on an assist from Nayquann Mitchell. Ranglin followed it up with another shot from downtown and then forced a steal to allow Edward Sullivan the easy fast break lay in to gain the lead.

Ranglin, Libroia and Brown combined to score the next 11 points to give the Panthers a lead they would not relinquish. St. Michael's did not go away quietly though; the Purple Knights pulled within four with just 33 seconds remaining, but the Brown and Gold put the game on ice by sinking four of six from the free throw line in the final 26 seconds.

Adelphi gets back to action on Tuesday, January 15 with a conference contest against UMass Lowell in Lowell, Massachusettes. Tip-off is scheduled for a 7:30 pm start.
