Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime against Franklin Pierce University in Tuesday's non-conference home opener on Motamed Field. The Panthers (0-3) worked a 2-2 tie late in the second half and saw several scoring opportunities, but the Ravens (1-0) tallied the game winner 4:12 into overtime to win their season opener.

Sara Michaels scored her second goal of the contest to send FPU home with a win, gathering a loose ball atop the hash mark and smashing it to the back of the cage just over four minutes into the extra period. Michaels netted her first goal at 24:40 in the first half to tie the game, and Taylor Libby put the Ravens up 3-2 with 15 seconds to go in the first half.

For Adelphi, Cassie Cabral struck first, sinking a rebound in the crease just over two minutes into the game to register her second goal of the season. Olivia Nowokunski later knotted the game at 2-2, blasting in her first collegiate goal to convert the penalty corner on an assist by Molly Cuevas.

FPU outshot the hosts 13-11 on the day, but Adelphi held a narrow 6-5 advantage on penalty corners. The Panthers took five corners in the second half alone but could not take advantage of several scoring opportunities.

In goal, Kristine Puzio made seven saves for the Panthers, while Sarah Cote stopped nine shots to pick up the win.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday when the Panthers take on Assumption College in the squad's Northeast-10 Conference opener at 1 p.m.
