Volleyball Off to Fast Start at Millersville Tournament

The Panthers posted a record of 3-1 at the Millersville Tournament.

Emily Dorko had 27 combined kills against C.W. Post and Shippensburg.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Millersville, PA - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Millersville, Pennsylvania over the Labor Day weekend to participate in the Millersville Tournament. Adelphi took on three in-region opponents and got off to a hot start, posting a record of 3-1.

Adelphi opened up tournament play on Friday with a hard fought four game win over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference member Slippery Rock. The Panthers out lasted the Rock, 30-28 in game one and dropped game two, 25-22 allowing the match to slide even at one a piece. From there the Brown and Gold took control, sealing the 3-1 victory with wins in game three and four of 25-18 and 25-19.

In the second game of the day Adelphi faced off with another PSAC school, Shippensburg. The Raiders came out strong and fast, dispatching the Panthers 25-12 in game one. But, Adelphi regrouped and turned the tide in game two, 25-21, before falling into a 2-1 hole thanks to a 25-21 game three Shippensburg win. The Panthers would rally for a 25-21 victory in game four, forcing a deciding fifth game, but ran out of steam as the Raiders took the match victory, 15-7.

Emiliy Dorko led the offense against the Raiders with 14 kills, while Haley Blunt added 11. Bianca Hernandez managed 17 digs, while Bree Popham contributed 14 and Blunt chipped in 11. Katie Bryson ran the offense with a team-high 42 assists in the loss.

The second day of action saw Adelphi open up play against Central Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Holy Family and the Panthers made quick work of Tigers. Adelphi closed out Holy Family in three games, 25-23, 26-24 and 25-20, improving to 2-1 on the weekend.

The Brown and Gold took on well known rival LIU-Post in their final game of the tournament and came away with another three game sweep. This time the Panthers used games of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-18 to dispatch the Pioneers and close out a very successful weekend with an overall record of 3-1.

Dorko again led the offense, this time putting down 13 balls, while both Blunt and Kaitlyn DeStefano added five kills. Hernandez and Popham were Adelphi's defensive standouts as Hernandez had 14 digs and Popham collected 10, while Bryson managed another team-high in assists with 32.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, September 7 when they travel to Anchorage, Alaska to participate in the University of Alaska-Anchorage Tournament.
