Box Score
Lowell, Mass. - The Adelphi University field hockey team suffered a 3-0 loss at UMass Lowell in a non-conference contest on Saturday. The Riverhawks improve to 5-1 with their fourth straight shutout victory, while the Panthers fall to 0-7.

Adelphi could not break the barrier set by UMass Lowell goalie Melanie Hopkins, who recorded the 25th shutout of her collegiate career. The junior keeper stopped all four shots sent her way and now sits one clean sheet shy of the Riverhawks program record for career shutouts.

For the Panthers, Alyssa Conklin registered a pair of shots on goal while Cassie Cabral and Emilee Rahner each fired an attempt, but the UMass Lowell defense silenced all offensive threats and held Adelphi to just four shots and six penalty corners. The Riverhawks controlled the flow of the contest via a 35-4 shot advantage and 19 penalty corners.

For the hosts, Vanessa Kent snapped the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute with her first goal of the season. Rachel McCarthy then potted her ninth and 10th markers of the year in the 30th and 62nd minutes, respectively, to seal the decisive win.

Panthers goalie Kristine Puzio made 18 saves on the day, marking her third double-digit save effort of 2012.

Adelphi takes the field again on Tuesday when the Panthers travel to American International College for a 4 p.m. non-league contest.
