Women's Tennis Rakes in NE-10 All-Conference Awards, Hosts SNHU in Semis

Second-seeded Panthers place league-best six athletes on All-Conference list with four First Team nods

2012 Northeast-10 Women's Tennis All-Conference Awards Release

South Easton, Mass. - The second-seeded Adelphi University women's tennis team dominated the Northeast-10 All-Conference awards announced on Thursday, capturing eight honors and tying Southern New Hampshire University with a league-best six student-athletes recognized for their outstanding play this season. The Panthers will host third-seeded SNHU, the only squad to top Adelphi in total All-Conference awards with 11, in Friday's Semifinal match at 2 p.m.

Samra Redzematovic received the team's highest singles recognition, earning First Team All-Conference accolades for No. 3 singles. Redzematovic was also the lone Panther to get a pair of First Team selections, partnering with Michelle Gurda for a First-Team No. 2 doubles nod. Joanna Haich garnered First Team honors at No. 5 singles, while Gaby Adia and Carolyn Smith landed on the First Team for their efforts at No. 3 doubles.

Maria Toft and Smith pulled in Second Team awards at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively, while Haich and Toft were tagged with a Second Team selection for No. 1 doubles. Gurda rounded out the hefty list of awards with a Third Team No. 2 singles accolade.

The Panthers, who took home a share of the NE-10 regular season crown with a 12-1 mark in league play, handed the Penmen their only league loss of the season and their first NE-10 regular season setback in 37 matches, defeating SNHU 5-4 on March 31. Friday's match marks the first time the Penmen have not hosted an NE-10 Semifinals contest since the 2008-09 season when they lost 5-3 at Bentley University, which was also the last season SNHU did not win the NE-10 Championship. Adelphi has met SNHU in the first round of each of the last two NCAA East Regional tournaments, falling both times, but will look to avenge those losses on Friday.
