Queens Village, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team handed Southern New Hampshire University its first Northeast-10 Conference loss of the season and snapped the team's streak of 37 straight regular season wins by a score of 5-4 at the Alley Pond Tennis Center on Saturday. The Panthers, one of two remaining undefeated teams in the conference, improve to 12-3 overall and 7-0 in the NE-10, while SNHU drops to 11-5 overall and 8-1 in the league.
The Panthers and Penmen split singles play 3-3, with
Samra Redzematovic,
Joanna Haich and
Carolyn Smith earning win. Doubles competition proved to be the difference as Adelphi took two out of three matches to claim the victory. Redzematovic teamed with
Michelle Gurda for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, and Smith paired with
Gaby Adia at No. 3 doubles for an 8-5 triumph.
Adelphi returns to action today with an NE-10 match against Merrimack College.
