Philadelphia, Pa. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team won its sixth consecutive match with a 9-0 victory at Philadelphia University in the Panthers' first match of the spring season on Sunday. The Panthers now stand at 7-1 on the season.
The Panthers dominated singles competition with
Bianca Posa and
Carolyn Smith earning spotless 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Maria Toft stayed strong at the top singles slot with a 6-2, 6-1 win and
Gaby Adia prevailed by the same score at No. 4 singles.
Joanna Haich cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot, and
Samra Redzematovic roared to a 6-0 second set after a hard-faught 6-4 score in the first set.
In doubles action, Posa and Toft battled to an 8-4 win at the top slot, while
Michelle Gurda returned to the court for the first time post-injury to team with Redzematovic for a strong 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Finally, Adia and Smith posted a dominant 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Panthers return to action on Thursday with a non-conference match at ASA College at 12 p.m.
