Garden City, N.Y. - The men's basketball team played host to the Greyhounds of Assumption College earlier this evening at the Center for Recreation and Sports. After holding the visitors to just 15 first half points, the Panthers, behind game high scorer Cliff Brown's 18 points, extended their lead to 19 to run away with the 70-51 win. In victory, Adelphi advances their record to 17-6, 14-5 NE-10 while Assumption slips to 10-13, 8-11 NE-10.

Brown led all scorers in the game with a career high 18 points on 5-12 shooting from the field including an unblemished 6-6 performance from the charity stripe to go along with his five assists. Robert Johnson tallied 17 points and three steals on the night while Bradley Simpson was an efficient 5-6 from the field for 12 points. Richard Harkins posted a game high eight assists while John Calarco added six points and three assists in the win.

As a team, the Panthers connected on 50 percent of their shots from the field (27-54) and sunk 11-13 attempts from the foul line. Additionally, they had a spectacular three point percentage defense, holding Assumption to just 7.7 percent (1-13) and 37.8 percent from the field.

For the Greyhounds, Tim Beinert led his team with 16 points on 5-10 shooting while Kevin Donahue added 10 points in the loss. Ryan Rozsnaki and Ronson Quick each added eight points while the team made 16 of 17 tries from the free throw line.

Simpson kicked the game off with a jumper off of a feed from Brown and never looked back. They opened the first 5:45 of the game with a 15-6 run, sparked by making their first four shots. They used the momentum from the nine point advantage early on to further the lead to as much as 15 in the half.

At 9:54, the Panthers managed to hold Assumption to just eight points while they continued to extend their lead. Assisted by Harkins, Simpson's bucket at 3:54 advanced their cushion to 15 points. In the final minute of the half, Assumption's Donahue and Beinert each connected on their two free throws to cut the deficit to 11 heading into halftime.

Assumption opened the final frame with a 6-2 run, pulling within five points. However, it was short lived as Brown drained two three balls from the corner pocket and added a layup in between on three straight possessions to grow the lead back to 11.

At 14:24, Harkins' attempt from behind the arc was just off the mark, but freshman Duane Morgan was there to clean up as he jumped, grabbed the rebound with one hand and threw it down for a dunk all in one motion.

Less than three minutes later, Calarco stole the ball from Rozsnaki and passed it up to a wide open Morgan who finished the play with a monster dunk, slamming it home with the crowd's approval.

With just seven ticks over the three minute mark, Calarco made good on a layup, courtesy of a Harkins feed to give the Panthers their largest lead of the night at 21 points. Travis Jordan hammered home the final shot of the game with a good three attempt with 11 seconds remaining as the curtain closed in favor of the Panthers.

With the win, and coupled with Franklin Pierce losing to St. Anslem earlier, Adelphi retakes the top spot in the NE-10 Standings. The hoopsters return to action on Tuesday, February 14 when they host Pace at 7:30 pm. Watch the game live via www.aupanthers.tv or catch live twitter updates by following @AUPanthers
